El Torcal Natural Park near Antequera
El Torcal Natural Park near Antequera

We fell in love with this area and its stunning views 4 years ago and decided to buy a farmhouse situated at the head of a valley, just 1km from the local village of Fuente del Conde. Our aim has been to convert the farmhouse into a house for ourselves with three self-contained and private apartments. As of Spring 2007 we have two lovely one bedroom apartments completed with a large pool and sun terrace for the exclusive use of our guests.

Situated in heart of central Andalucia, this area is renowned for its olive production, being one of the largest producing areas in the world. Olive trees stretch for as far as the eye can see and there is a great warmth and texture to this dramatic landscape. Here you'll also find nature undisturbed; a great place for bird-watching or observing the dramatic night sky. The peace and quiet are deafening!!

Major Andalucian Attractions

This is the ideal location for visiting all of Andalucia's major cultural centres. Granada and the stunning Alhambra Palace are just over an hour away, Corboba and the amazing Mezquita are just an hour and a half away thanks to the newly extended A45 linking Cordoba and Malaga, and Seville with its historic old quarters and Giralda just 2 hours away. The picturesque cliff top town of Ronda with its many attractions is about 2 hours away and Malaga and the Costa del Sol an hour's journey.

Attractions closer to home

The closest town is Iznajar, 10 minutes away, with its own commanding cliff top position above the 32km Lake of Andalucia. The town is home to a medieval church, which is currently being restored, and an 11th century Moorish castle. There's plenty of bars, restaurants, shops, banks and a couple of nightclubs.

The jewel in the Subbetica's crown is Priego de Cordoba just an hour away. It has many attractions and to make best use of your time visit the Tourist Information and pick up a copy of the daily factsheet detailing which monuments are open that day. There's a great variety fo churches, museums and a castle to visit. Also there's a great selection of restaurants.

Other Subbetica white villages worth a visit are Zuheros and Luque in the northern Subbetica and Cabra in the centre of the park.

Antequera is the closest main city, with many attractions, great for shopping and eating out. Half an hour from Antequera is the El Torcal Natural Park with its dramatic rock formations and well-marked walking tracks to follow.

Local Activities

This is a great place for walking. All of the area has public access rights so you can walk for miles through the olives. The Subbetica Natural Park is also great for walking and has many designated routes, as well as two 1,500m peaks.

Cycling is also very popular especially on the converted railway track running through the Subbetica, known as the Via Verde.

There's a local horseriding stables at Salinas with horses and ponies to suit all ages and abilities and riding for an hour to a day.

In summer there are also canoes and pedaloes down at the beach on the lake at Playa Valdearenas.
